Skin is the largest organ on the human body. It protects the body from the outside world. Its thickness ranges from 1/12 inch to 1/5inch. The skin on the eyelid is the thinnest, While the skins on the palm and the sole of the feet are the thickest. Skin is flexible and protective. Under the normal conditions, new skin are born constantly through metabolism. Usually, face cells metabolizes once three weeks.
Skin consists of three layers:
1. Epidermis
2. Dermis
3. Hypodermic
Epidermis is the outmost layer of the skin. It protects the inner skin from injuries. There are no blood vessels in epidermis. However, there are lots of nerve ends.
Dermis consists of collagen and elastic. It contains numerous blood capillaries, nerve ends, sebaceous glands, sweat glands, and 60% of the water in the skin. Dermis makes skin flexible.
Hypodermic is a thick layer of fat, very elastic. It contains blood vessels, sweat glands, hair root, and fat cells.
